Culture can be beautiful, but it also replaces our instincts. In the end, art becomes artificial, while nature is natural. We ourselves become a layer of culture that one day archaeologists will unearth and study,” explains ZeBrene about the song’s idea.
The song encourages returning to simplicity and truth – to nature. ZeBrene found inspiration in the book Black Elk Speaks, where the main character – a Native American holy man – always sought answers to life’s complex questions in solitude with nature. This idea is echoed in the song’s second verse. “We could also try like Black Elk – to look for answers in nature. Then the answers to even the most complex questions will come,” says ZeBrene.

“Kultūras slānis” is not just a solo project – it features the specially formed Zebrene Choir, which, although small in number, gives the track a human warmth and sense of unity, sounding truly powerful. According to the musician, working with the choir was natural and harmonious: “We didn’t argue like many choirs do – we lived in great friendship and harmony.”
In short, the song could be described as a musical meditation about the human being – their place in society, in nature, and within themselves.
