ZeBrene Releases New Single “Kultūras slānis”

Latvian musician ZeBrene releases his latest track “Kultūras slānis” on Thursday, June 12 – a song that raises questions about where true human peace and answers to life’s complexities can be found – in culture or in nature.

“We constantly search for peace, even nirvana, in culture – in books, art, society. Culture seems to replace everything – how to eat properly, how to sleep, how to reproduce; we look it up in books, listen to others, but in fact, all of that is already coded in us by nature.

Culture can be beautiful, but it also replaces our instincts. In the end, art becomes artificial, while nature is natural. We ourselves become a layer of culture that one day archaeologists will unearth and study,” explains ZeBrene about the song’s idea.

The song encourages returning to simplicity and truth – to nature. ZeBrene found inspiration in the book Black Elk Speaks, where the main character – a Native American holy man – always sought answers to life’s complex questions in solitude with nature. This idea is echoed in the song’s second verse. “We could also try like Black Elk – to look for answers in nature. Then the answers to even the most complex questions will come,” says ZeBrene.

“Kultūras slānis” is not just a solo project – it features the specially formed Zebrene Choir, which, although small in number, gives the track a human warmth and sense of unity, sounding truly powerful. According to the musician, working with the choir was natural and harmonious: “We didn’t argue like many choirs do – we lived in great friendship and harmony.”

In short, the song could be described as a musical meditation about the human being – their place in society, in nature, and within themselves.
